Me and fellow researchers have agreed that (a) the Butrusiyya precinct has a separate gate, at which security was almost inexistent, (b) the police and the military generally did not do any security checks at the Cathedral ground, but maintained a rather merely symbolic presence, (c) security checks were done by church personnel, (d) Egyptian experts claim that there is an unwritten 'protocol' between the church and the security services regulating the role of police around churches.
